The statistics are shocking. Sky news have revealed that at least 40 people with a profound learning disability or autism have died while admitted to “barbaric” secure hospitals the government has promised to close since 2015. 9 of these were under 35! The number of children held in these places has doubled since 2015. Doubled.
This video is inspired by an older post of mine called Backwards Parenting. I have certainly had to take everything I previously knew about parenting and turn it on its head. I expect many of my readers will have too!
“Come downstairs for dinner.” She worded it wrong, she knew as soon as she said it. It had been a long day and she was extremely tired. Food was later than normal and she had shouted up the stairs to her daughter.
She just gets overwhelmingly anxious at the thought of all those demands and the fact she is out of control and has no choice about going or what she does when she gets there.
Instead of telling our PDAers what to do, we let them think they are in charge, they are less anxious this way.
Instead of surprises we do plans.
Instead of making sure our SPD children get a balanced diet, we make sure they eat.
Instead of subjecting our children to a day of stress, sometimes we keep them home and that’s ok.
