This ride is a must do for any Toy Story or Buzz Lightyear fan! It is a very popular ride so unless you have a disability access pass it is advisable to try and get a fastpass or ride early in the morning or in the evening to avoid the longest queues.
The story of the ride is that you are trying to help Buzz Lightyear stop the Evil Emperor Zurg who is stealing batteries from toys so he can make a weapon of mass destruction. For some kids this is a great story, for others of us who don’t really know about Zurg, it is still a great ride!
We got to the front of the queue and walked along the moving conveyor belt to board our XP-40 space cruisers. These are open carriages in a moving line of carriages, each seating two to three people. However there are only two laser canons so the middle person would only have the job of controlling the spinning.
The ride set off into a glowing neon world of Buzz lightyear! The idea is to use your laser canon to shoot invisible lasers at the many targets as you travel through the Gamma Quadrant.
Soon we came into battle with Zurg and his revolting robots. You can turn the carriage using a small lever to face different targets to try and defeat them.
As we hit the targets we gained points which were shown on the screen in front of us. Different sized targets were worth different amounts of points.
At the end of the Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast ride, we were given a Star Command ranking, depending on the amount of points we scored. It was fun to aim to be a Galactic Hero but most of us were Space Cadets!
Riding Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast with an Autistic child?
The ride is slow moving but can spin fast although you are in charge of the spinning. You can sit with your child as the carriages hold two to three people.
It is loud so ear defenders may be useful.
There are a lot of glow, UV and Neon lights and tons to look at.
The Disability Priority Card will get you on the exit of this ride. It is necessary to wait by the metal gate near the exit until a cast member collects you. This can take a little while. Once the cast member comes they will escort you straight onto the ride.
Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast is located in Discovery Land in Disneyland Paris.
