We checked in to the Muthu Clumber Park Hotel at seven on Saturday evening. The receptionist was lovely and friendly and directed us to our room.
We were staying in one of their executive rooms and first impressions as we entered were wow! The room was spacious and had a king sized bed, desk and armchair. There was plenty of drawer and wardrobe space. The window overlooked the pretty courtyard in the center of the hotel.
The mini fridge in the corner of the room contained complimentary mars bars, traditional lemonade and bottled water.
Another interesting touch that I haven’t seen in a hotel before was the umbrella hanging in the wardrobe next to the ironing board! I also especially liked the inclusion of a teapot and biscuits on the tray with the kettle, and the fact there were proper mugs.
The bathroom was large with a bath and overhead shower and complimentary toiletries including a comb and shower caps.
The room and bathroom were clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. Robes and slippers were also provided.
After we had taken our bags to the room we headed straight back out to check out the spa and pool as it shut at nine and we wanted to swim.
At the pool, towels were provided and there were free lockers in the changing rooms. The pool was warm and had a sauna, steam room and an outdoor hot tub.
There was a comfy area to rest and a bar and cafe which was closed when we visited. Spa treatments were also available to book. Near to the pool there was a well equipped gym for guests to use.
After our swim we headed to the restaurant as last food orders were 9:15. The restaurant was very nice and the food was good.
We tried the butternut squash and pumpkin spaghetti, the sausages and mash and a gruyere tart.
The tart tasted just like a quiche and was very nice.
The large portion of spaghetti was very filling and a good option for vegetarians.
The sausage and mash happened to be the favourite. The sausages were very flavourful and you could taste the herbs in them. The mash was creamy and delicious and there was a serving of perfectly cooked spinach.
We didn’t try a dessert as the meals were sufficiently filling and we remembered the mars bars waiting in the room for later!
We watched a film on the large TV and had a great night’s sleep in the very comfy bed, before heading back to the restaurant to try the included breakfast.
Breakfast was an impressive delicious combination of cold buffet items and a hot food menu.
The buffet had plenty of fresh fruit, cereals, breads and pastries as well as fresh juices to choose from.
From the hot food menu I ordered tomato, mushroom and a well done poached egg. The egg was perfect and my breakfast was so aesthetically pleasing despite me ordering such an odd assortment of foods.
We also tried the bacon, sausage, fried egg and beans which was equally well presented and delicious.
This is a four star hotel doing it well! Nothing is too much for the cheery staff and the hotel is so obviously cared for as much as the guests.
We very much enjoyed our stay at the friendly Muthu Clumber Park Hotel and Spa and would definitely stay there again if we were in the area.
