Because I decided last minute to travel to London to visit The Medieval Banquet, I needed a hotel.
London is massive and there are a lot of hotels to choose from. My kids won’t share a bed so that ruled out most the chain hotels and I was on a budget. So after an hour browsing the last minute booking sites online I decided on a hotel very close to Paddington station called Falcon Hotel.
They have a family room for £135 a night including breakfast and wifi so it sounded perfect.
Checking in was easy and we were greeted with a smile. I signed the paper, showed my card and was given my key. I was also given a wifi password and breakfast times.
The room was great. The hotel is a three star hotel so my expectations were not too high. The room was clean and warm with two adjustable radiators.
There was a double bed and two full size single beds which is just what we needed. The beds were comfy and the pillows a little too firm for my taste but the kids didn’t complain.
There was a kettle in the room with tea, coffee and milk. Bottles of water were on sale in the hallway for 50p.
The ensuite bathroom was small and basic but clean. Toiletries were provided. The shower was fine but the cubicle was very small and if you are large you may struggle to close the door!
The room we had was in the basement and had a door to a tiny square of enclosed outside. I guess if you smoked this could be useful? It also allowed us to safely let in some fresh air.
Perhaps the biggest bonus of the room was the giant TV on the wall with ample channels!
Breakfast was served in a room down the corridor from ours. We were promptly seated and offered tea or coffee and asked if we wanted English breakfast. On the side was a small selection of cereals, processed cheese slices and cheese spread, tinned fruit, croissants, biscuits, butter, jam and jugs of juice.
Toast was brought to our table. The English breakfast consisted of a plate with one sausage, one slice of bacon, an egg, some beans and mushrooms which I think were tinned. We found a bottle of ketchup on the side. For an included breakfast it was ok.
Location wise the hotel was great. It is round the corner to Paddington Station so easy to get to anywhere in London. There is a coffee shop on and a Burger King on the corner of the road. For a London hotel the prices are great for travellers on a budget and the hotel staff were friendly. We enjoyed our stay.
