Managing to get cheap tickets before hand on groupon, we set off to The Showcase of Citrus without knowing much about it or really expecting much. We were pleasantly surprised.
On arrival we visited the shop to get our ride tickets and found they were selling the most delicious 100% natural and freshly grown orange juice slushy! It was a boiling hot morning and this was just what we needed to cool us down!
We made our way to the boarding platform for our 4×4 adventure. The kids were amazed at the size of the wheels. The trucks were twelve feet high and forty feet long!
The ride itself was through a 2500 acre estate, with orange groves, woods, swamps and animals! The ride lasted about an hour and was great fun and the guide extremely interesting as he explained about the orange business and trees etc.
We stopped off to feed some animals and the kids loved throwing oranges!
Each child even got a chance to drive the monster trucks which they thought was great!
After our 4×4 ride we had a look at the animals and then at the Old Time Farm Store & Market we got to sample locally made sauces, honey and soap.
You can also pick your own fruit here and a map is available from the shop.
The Showcase of Citrus with a child with autism?
If they can sit in a truck then yes! The ride is fun with plenty to look at. Ear defenders may be an idea as the truck is loud. There are no seat belts, seats are benches down the sides of the truck.
Even if you opt not to do the 4×4 tour there is plenty of outdoor space, animals and fruit picking.
You would need to closely supervise in the shop as there is lots to touch and samples.
Details about showcase of citrus can be found at http://showcaseofcitrus.com and booking is available online. Entry to the showcase of citrus is free. The trucks run four to five times a day and cost $25 per adult and $15 per child. There are often deals and discounts on groupon
